At Rittenhouse Dental Group, our dentist uses dental technology to diagnose and treat oral health issues. This includes X-rays, intraoral cameras illuminating the oral cavity, and lasers. This technology allows your dentist to quickly and accurately detect any oral problems you might have. For example, your dentist can detect decay between teeth with digital X-rays without taking multiple images. Intraoral cameras allow your dentist to see areas of damage and infection in the gums or tooth roots that are not visible to the naked eye.
Digital X-Rays
A traditional x-ray film can take several minutes to develop, and it’s not as precise as the images from a digital X-ray machine. Unlike a film, the digital version can be viewed on a computer or TV screen within seconds. Since the images are digital, they can be enhanced for better viewing and diagnosis. The dentist can also take more images, send them to another specialist, or save them to a disc for the patient to bring along to their visit.
Intraoral Cameras
An intraoral camera is a small handheld wand that can quickly and easily capture high-resolution images of your mouth. The camera is about the size of a small pen, and it’s attached to the end of a wand that resembles a TV remote. When the dentist presses the button on the wand, the camera takes a digital picture of your teeth and sends it to the computer screen in the treatment room. This innovative technology allows patients to see exactly what the dentist sees, which can help them better understand their recommended treatment plan and why they need it. Plus, the images can be saved in your file for future reference.
iTero® Scanners
The iTero scanner uses laser technology to project 3-D digital scans of your mouth into a computer model. Your dentist will use computer-generated images to plan treatment for your smile. The iTero scanner provides an accurate model of your teeth and mouth without messy impressions or gagging on the tray of impression material needed to obtain traditional molds. A digital scan also eliminates the need for additional visits, as your dentist can make adjustments to the model before finalizing the plan for your treatment. With the precision of a digital scan, your dentist can create customized treatment plans that improve the look and function of your smile. An accurate impression of your mouth reduces the need for remakes and adjustments after completing your procedure.
